David Gerdes
RANTOUL – David E. Gerdes, 59, of Peoria, formerly of Rantoul, passed away at 11:45 p.m. Thursday (Dec. 9, 2010) at the Piper Rehab & Living Center in Piper City.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday (Dec. 14) at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Chatsworth, with Jerry Gentes, minister of pastoral care, officiating. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday prior to services at the church. Interment will be at the Chatsworth Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by Chatsworth American Legion Post 613.

Arrangements are being handled by Martin Funeral Home, Chatsworth.

David was born April 16, 1951, in Fairbury, a son of Leo and Mellicent (Blair) Gerdes. He graduated from the Chatsworth High School, Class of 1969.

He is survived by three brothers, Dale Gerdes of Chatsworth, Steve Gerdes of Ironwood, Mich., and Brian Gerdes of Rantoul; one sister, Marlene (Ed) Clampitt of Rantoul; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant sister, Diana Kay.

He had served in the Illinois National Guard.

Mr. Gerdes enjoyed reading, the Chicago Cubs and visiting the Amish country with his father.

David was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Chatsworth and the Chatsworth Alumni Association.
