SHIRLEY — Goldie Mae Beehn, 77, Shirley, died at 12:52 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 17, 2010) at Heartland Healthcare, Normal.


Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Bloomington, with Pastor Jonathon Manor officiating. Burial will be in Funks Grove Cemetery, rural McLean. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at Beck Memorial Home, Bloomington.


Memorials may be made to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church or Alzheimer’s Association.


She was born Oct. 11, 1932, at Piper City, daughter of Frederick and Minnie Grosenbach Hornstein. She married Darrell W. Beehn on Nov. 14, 1954, at Chatsworth.


Surviving are her husband, Darrell, Shirley; children, Deb (Stan) Stoller, Shirley; Denise (Les) Spaulding, Heyworth; Doreen (Jeff) Vaughn, Bloomington; and Darrell (Angela) Beehn, Shirley; siblings, Mildred Propes and Lucille Haberkorn, both Chatsworth, and Fred Hornstein, Urbana; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, one brother and two sisters.


Goldie was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Bloomington, and the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary.


Goldie worked at State Farm until she retired in 1995, after 25 years of service.


Goldie was a wonderful cook and enjoyed playing cards. She treasured spending time with her family. We can be consoled that she is now at peace and we will be reunited one day. She will be deeply missed until then.

CHATSWORTH — Gerald D. “Jerry” Franklin, 61, Chatsworth, passed away at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 13, 2010) at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.


Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Martin-Burke Funeral Home, Chatsworth.


Cremation rites will be accorded following visitation. Private inurnment will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Chatsworth Fire Department or SELCAS.


Jerry was born Jan. 17, 1948, in Tennessee, a son of Luther and Eunice Simms Franklin.


He married Debra E. Szymialis on Nov. 18, 1967, in Chicago. She preceded him in death on Feb. 1, 2006.


He is survived by two daughters, Charisse (Will) Price and Kim (Dan) Retter, both of Chatsworth; six grandchildren, Kelci, Kaylie and Konnor Bednar; and Sammi Retter, Morgan Lamberes and Debra Joyce Retter, all of Chatsworth; his mother, Eunice Franklin, Dublin, Ga.; five sisters, Betty Kea, Dublin, Ga.; Wanda (Robert) Wallace, Iron City, Tenn.; Carolyn (Jack) Dollins, Kenneth, Mo.; Joan (Jim) Howell, Vidalia, Ga.; and Nita Kreuger, Dublin, Ga.; two brothers, Randy and Rickey Franklin, both of Dublin, Ga.; and numerous nieces and nephews.


In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by one daughter, Kristin; his father; and one brother, Dwight.


Jerry was an auto mechanic for various shops in the Chicago area.


He enjoyed working on cars and building things. He also enjoyed stock car racing, having built his own modified stock car.


He loved hanging out with his family and grandkids.

PIPER CITY — Jane M. Franey, 61, Piper City, died at 7:22 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 9, 2010) at the Iroquois Memorial Hospital, Watseka, following a lengthy battle with multiple sclerosis.


Her funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter Catholic Church, Piper City, with the Rev. Michael Pennock officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Piper City. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Reilly-Redenius Funeral Home, Piper City, with recitation of the rosary at 6 p.m. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.


Jane was born March 8, 1948, at Fairbury Hospital, daughter of John R. “Jack” and Marjorie V. Weber Boma. She married William “Bill” Franey on Nov. 13, 1968, in Piper City. He survives.


Also surviving are five children, Bill (Melissa) Franey, Monterrey, Mexico; Becky (Jeff) Swartz, Deland; Jill (Nick) Jones, Morton; Michael Franey, Piper City; and Cynthia Franey (Corey Matthews), Gilman; eight grandchildren; three brothers, twin, John (Susan) Boma, Crescent City; Doug Boma, Urbana; and Don Boma, Herscher; one sister, Pat Miller, Lafayette, Ind.; one brother-in-law, Glenn Mogged, Piper City; and many nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her parents and by one sister, Judy Mogged.


Jane was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Piper City, and a member of the Council of Catholic Women and had served as president of that organization.


She graduated from Piper City High School and attended Southern Illinois University-Carbondale as well as Illinois State University. After raising her children, she received her LPN degree from Parkland College and was a nurse at Greenbriar Healthcare, Piper City. She spent many years helping her husband farm, as well as caring for relatives in need of assistance.


She enjoyed high school sports and helped coach cheerleading at Tri-Point High School in Cullom for several years. She was very artistic and enjoyed painting, creating crafts and collecting antiques. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

50th for James, Joanne Perkins


KEMPTON -- James "Jim" and Joanne Perkins of Kempton will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. on Jan. 17 at First Baptist Church of Pontiac. They also celebrated in July with a two-week trip to Alaska.


Perkins and Joanne Bayston were married Jan. 17, 1960, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Chatsworth. Their attendants were Madge Nance and Boyd Hummel.


They are the parents of Ellen (Jim) Hoffman, Cullom; and Elaine Clapp and Steve (Stacy) Perkins, both of Herscher. They have seven grandchildren.


He is a farmer.

CHATSWORTH — Angela Kathleen Bergan Schlueter passed away Saturday (Jan. 2, 2010) at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge.


Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Chatsworth. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at the church. Inurnment will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Chatsworth. Martin-Burke Funeral Home,  Chatsworth, is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials in Angela’s name may be made to SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church.


Angela is survived by two daughters, Emily and Allison Schlueter, Park Ridge; two sisters, Ann Versluis, Rock Island, and Mary (Jack) Ohtani, Las Vegas, Nev.; and two brothers, James Bergan, Silvis, and Thomas (Terri) Bergan, Naperville. She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald P. Bergan and R. Kathleen Bergan of Chatsworth.


Angela is a 1967 graduate of Holy Trinity High School, Bloomington, and Edgewood College in Madison, Wis. She worked in Chicago at American National Bank. She was married in 1984 to Dr. William Schlueter.


She loved art, reading and caring for cats, especially stray cats. We will all miss her sense of humor.
