Obit of Virginia Kay (Johnson) Miller

Virginia Kay Miller, 73, of Chatsworth, IL passed away at 10:06 pm on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at her home. A visitation will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at Calvert & Martin Funeral Home in Chatsworth and one hour prior to services at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Chatsworth on Thursday, April 4, 2019. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Chatsworth. Burial will follow services at Chatsworth Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Chatsworth or Chatsworth Fire and Rescue. Virginia was born April 13, 1945 in Fairbury, IL a daughter of Wesley and Margaret (Mehrings) Johnson. She married Dale LaVern Miller on January 5, 1964 in Chatsworth, IL. He passed away on August 22, 2000. She is survived by her three sons: Michael (Marcie) Miller of Charleston, IL, Matthew (Tammy) Miller of Campus, IL, and Marcus (Alicia) Miller of Forrest, IL; her one daughter: Michelle (Gregg) Honegger in Forrest, IL; her twelve grandchildren: Rachel and Quinn Miller, Hannah, Holden and Hayden Miller, Clay, Cole, and Crew Miller, and Lauren, Logan, Leigh, and Laine Honegger; and one brother: Harry (Til) Johnson in Forrest, Illinois; She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Virginia was educated in the Chatsworth Schools. She was a beautician for over 27 years out of her home. Once she retired, she farmed with her husband, Dale, working together getting everything done. She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Chatsworth where she was very active. Virginia also served on the Charlotte Township Board and as an Election Judge for many years. Above all, Virginia enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren. They were her hobbies, and she loved spending time with them whenever she could. She was a loving mom, grandma, sister, aunt, and friend who will be greatly missed.

Obit of Phyllis (Pearson) Corban

Phyllis Corban, 86 of Chatsworth, died on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community, Chenoa.Cremation rites have been accorded and memorial services will be 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at the Chatsworth United Methodist Church, with Barb Schlatter officiating. Burial will follow in Chatsworth twp. Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to her services also at the church in Chatsworth on Saturday. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury is in charge of arrangements. Memorials contributions may be directed to the family or the Chatsworth United Methodist Church, Chatsworth. Phyllis was born on February 24, 1933 in rural Piper City, IL the daughter of Howard and Lillian (Drilling) Pearson. She married Gene Corban on March 23, 1952 in Chatsworth. He passed away August 15, 2012. Her parents also preceded her in death. She is survived by two sons: Larry (Joy) Corban of Streator, IL; and James (Debra) Corban of Greeley, CO; four grandchildren, six great grandchildren; her brother: Glenn (Zoe) Pearson of Lafayette, IN; and one sister: Marilyn Fortna of Fairbury. Phyllis was a member of Chatsworth United Methodist Church. She worked at The Citizen’s Bank of Chatsworth as a teller for most of her life. She enjoyed arts & crafts, collectibles, and spending time with her family.

Obit of Debra Sue (McKinley) Underwood

Debra Sue Underwood, 63 of Chenoa passed away at 8 am, Sunday, March 24, 2019 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria. Funeral services will be 11 am, Thursday, March 28, 2019 at Christ Community Church, Chenoa. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury. Visitation will be 4 to 8 pm, Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa. In lieu of flowers memorials the family suggests that memorial contributions be directed to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Debra was born August 2, 1955 in Bloomington; the daughter of Glenn and Sheralyn (Shoemaker) McKinley . She married Robert W. Underwood on May 31, 2008. Her husband Bobby survives in Chenoa. Her parents, one brother, Mark McKinley  and one son Kyle Kimmel preceded her in death. Also surviving are one son, Travis (Erin) Weller of Columbus, OH; Daughter Kari (Jon) Bettisch of Downs; step-children, Danielle (Ryan) Donovan of Fairbury; Dustin (Whitney) Underwood of Bloomington; Derek Underwood of Fairbury; sister, Kathy (Ted) Lacina of Bartlett; brother, Kevin (Michelle) McKinley of Normal; and seven grandchildren Debra graduated from Chatsworth HS in 1973 and worked for Caterpillar Inc. for over 35 years. She attended Christ Community Church in Chenoa and volunteered at Hope Pregnancy Center in Pontiac. Debra was a passionate, unselfish woman who loved to serve others. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Obit of Ruth (McClain) Hilligoss Puffer

Ruth was the 2nd wife of Lester Puffer
Ruth Lucille Hilligoss Puffer, 91, of Arizona, formerly of Bayles Lake, Loda passed away 1:49 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2019 in Mesa, Arizona. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 30 at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E Pells, Paxton with Rev. Timothy Hahn officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home. Ruth was born August 1, 1927 in Champaign County the daughter of William and Blanche Withrow McClain. She married Edward Hilligoss in June 1947. He preceded her in death August 1979. She later married Lester Puffer October 31, 1992 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Loda. He preceded her in death May 23, 2003. She is survived by her son, John P. Hilligoss of Apache Junction, AZ; one step son, Michael Puffer of Kankakee; one step daughter, Sharon Berns of Clifton; three grandchildren, one great grandson, one great granddaughter, five step grandchildren, and six step great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and five sisters. Ruth grew up on a farm west of Paxton. She attended grade school at the Amity Country School and graduated from Paxton High School in 1945. She worked for seven years for General Telephone Company, Paxton and retired from Ameritech Telephone Company in Chicago. After retiring in May 1984, she moved from Chicago to Bayles Lake, Loda. She then lived in Cape Canaveral, Florida for 10 years before moving to Arizona in 2014. Ruth was a past president of American Legion Auxiliary, past treasurer of Bayles Lake Association, and a past member of the Bayles Lake Auxiliary, Telephone Company PIONEERS, and Lakeview Country Club. While living in Florida she was a past president of Cape Shores, Cape Canaveral. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo and crocheting. Obit of Joyce (Hoeger) Deany

Joyce Deany, 83, of Watseka passed away on March 14, 2019 at Prairieview Lutheran Home in Danforth. Joyce was born February 13, 1936 in Clinton, IA, the daughter of Leonard J. and Kathryn (Flessner) Hoeger and they preceded her in death along with one sister, Carol Bowen. She married Paul Dean Sloter in Chatsworth in December of 1958 and he preceded her in death in 1961. She later married Donald Deany in Cullom on August 10, 1963 and he survives in Watseka. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Eric Paul Sloter of Bella Vista, AR, John David Sloter of Boone, IA, and Mark Donald Deany of Richmond Height, MO; thirteen grandchildren; seven greatgrandchildren; and five brother-in-laws. Mrs. Deany was a music educator and a school counselor for Crescent Iroquois and Watseka Unit #9. She was a member of Iroquois Mental Health Center, Lutherans for Life, Retired Teachers Association, and Past-President of her church council. Visitation will be from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2019 at Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Faith Lutheran Church in Watseka. Rev. Alex McNally will officiate. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Cullom with her grandson, Vicar Alex Sloter, officiating. Memorials may be given to Lutherans for Life, Faith Lutheran Mission Fund, Prairieview Lutheran Home in Danforth, or Iroquois Memorial Hospice. Obit of Carol A. (Hoeger) Bowen

Carol A. Bowen, Bloomington, IL, died March 14 at McLean County Nursing Home, Normal, IL. Her funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bloomington with Rev. Peter Weeks officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington. A private graveside service will be held at The Forrest Cemetery in Forrest. Carol was born October 26, 1939 in Chatsworth, IL. She was the daughter of Leonard Hoeger and Kathryn (Flessner) Hoeger. She married George Bowen on August 25, 1961 in Fairbury, IL. Surviving are her husband George, Bloomington, IL; and their two daughters, Debby (Don) Henkel, Shirley, IL and Kathy Bowen, Bloomington, IL.; three beloved nephews and their families, Eric (Joni) Sloter, Bentonville, AR, John (Brenda) Sloter, Boone, IA, and Mark (Tina) Deany, Richmond Heights, MO. She also leaves many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Joyce Deany CHS 1953, who also passed away on March 14, 2019. Carol grew up a farm girl who was a bookkeeper most of her life. She enjoyed her faith, family, friends, a good laugh and her dogs. She liked to collect antique glassware, garden, read and be with family and friends. She was proud of her Ostfriesland German heritage and enjoyed genealogy with her family. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the McLean County Nursing Home for taking care of her. Their care and love will be missed. Obit of David L. Hendershott

 ELGIN - David L. Hendershott, age 66, died Friday, January 20, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 26, 1950 in Peoria Il, the oldest of ten children. After serving in the US Navy, he met his wife, Rebecca. David worked as an RN, and settled in the Elgin area to raise their family. He fought the good fight against cancer, but the battle was too great and the Good Lord called him home. He leaves behind his wife of 28 years Rebecca. His children, Colin and his wife Lyndley; Rachel and her husband, Nolan and three grandsons, Lukas, Kaleb, and Mikah; Molly and her fiance Griffin; Thomas, Joshua, Carlos, Rob, Max and Lucy. He will also be missed by his sisters and brothers, innumerable nieces, nephews, a vast extended family, and a great faith community. David will be reunited with his mom, dad, brother and sister in heaven. Visitation will be held Monday from 4 to 8:00 P.M. at Yurs Funeral Home St. Charles. Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 A.M. Tuesday at St. John Neumann Catholic Church 2900 E. Main Street St. Charles. Burial will be at River Valley Memorial Gardens West Dundee. Contributions may be made to the family.
