Obit of Shawn L. Smith


Shawn L. Smith, 33, of Normal, formerly of Pontiac and Chatsworth, passed away at 9:22 pm on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chatsworth. Jerry Gentes, Minister of Pastoral Care will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 pm on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Calvert & Martin Funeral Home in Chatsworth. Burial will follow services at the Germanville Township Cemetery in Rural Chatsworth. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
Shawn was born April 17, 1979 in Pontiac, IL a son of Steven L. Smith and Roberta L. Hill. He grew up in the Pontiac area.
He is survived by his mother: Roberta (John) Reinitz of Chatsworth; his father: Steven L. Smith of Fairfield, IL; his paternal grandmother: Phyllis Smith of Fairfield; his maternal grandmother: Margaret Hill of Pontiac; one daughter: Cameron Jean Smith; two sisters: Rebecca Smith of Chatsworth and Lisa Smith of Pontiac; three step brothers: Joshua, Kraig, and Kent Reinitz; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister: Crystal Lynn Smith; his step brother: Justin Reinitz; his maternal grandfather: Robert Hill, Sr.; his maternal step grandfather: Allen Divley; and his paternal grandfather: Thomas Smith.
Shawn was passionate about many things. He was very athletic and enjoyed basketball, fishing, golfing, football, and bocce ball. He especially liked bowling, and competed at the statewide and national level. He had a passion for music of all different genres. Shawn also took classes for the Culinary Arts and was a chef in West Virginia.
He attended the Grace Church in Normal. Shawn donated a lot of his time to the Home Sweet Home Mission as a volunteer in the kitchen.
Shawn worked for State Farm as a Call Service Representative.
He was a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
