James Albert Stiles, 80, of rural Lincoln, died Monday, March 18, 2013, at Boone Hospital Center, Columbia. He was born on April 9, 1932, at Battletown, Kentucky, a son of John and Bessie C. (Bullock) Stiles.
On June 16,1961, in Payneville, Kentucky, he was united in marriage to Betty Barley, who survives of the home. In 1962, they moved to Chatsworth, Illinois.
Before retiring, he worked as a mechanic and welder for Steele Construction. In 1972, they moved to the Cole Camp area. He spent many hours volunteering at Yeager Union Church of rural Lincoln, helping to build their new addition which was completed in August of 2006. He was active with the Lakeview Heights Fire Department, where he had served as president from July 7, 2003, to May of 2006, was Fireman of the Year in 2004, and was instrumental in building fire station #3.
He enjoyed fishing, then donating his "catch" to local fundraising fish frys, woodworking, and working in his shop. He loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters: Pamela G. Stiles, and her companion, Steve DeGoes, of Lincoln, and Lisa M. Theisen, and her husband, Earl, of Cole Camp; one son, Ken D. Stiles, and his wife, Janice, of Sedalia; one sister, Catherine Flaherty of Louisville, KY; four grandchildren: Adam Pritchard, and his wife, Brittany, Chelsey Gallagher, and her husband, Grant, Grant Pritchard, and Brady Theisen; and five great-grandchildren: Audrie Pritchard, Landon Walk-Pritchard, Gracelyn Pritchard, Trent Gallagher, and Callie Gallagher.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and five brothers: Junie Stiles, Mack Stiles, Claude Stiles, William Stiles, and Paul Stiles.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 22, 2013, at Fox Funeral Home, Cole Camp, with Pastor Bill Siebert officiating. Burial will be in Brushy Cemetery, rural Lincoln.
The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2013, at the Fox Funeral Home in Cole Camp.
The family suggests memorial contributions be given to Lakeview Heights Fire Department or the Cole Camp
R-1 Brady Fund in care of the Fox Funeral Home, Cole Camp.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Lakeview Heights Firemen.
