Obit of Harold Hornickel


Harold Hornickel, 87, of rural Chatsworth, passed away at 9:34 am on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at Gibson Area Hospital.
His funeral will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Chatsworth with Father BK Tran officiating. A Christian burial will be at the Germanville Township Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 pm on Friday, April 5, 2013 at Calvert & Martin Funeral Home in Chatsworth and an hour prior to the service on Saturday. Memorials may be made to SELCAS in Fairbury, IL or Livingston County Humane Society, 21179 N. 1358 E. Road, Pontiac, IL.
Harold was born on July 3, 1925 at home in Chatsworth, IL to Augustus and Mae (Smith) Hornickel. He married Regina Swanick on April 19, 1947 and were married for nearly sixty-six years. She survives.
Also, surviving are sons: Jim (Bev) of Normal, Dennis (Gayle) and David (Ann Hanson, special friend) all of Chatsworth; one daughter: Rosemarie (Steve) Umland in Champaign; nine granddaughters: Emily (Jay) Fleischmann of Turlock CA, Trisha Hornickel (Fiance Neal Murphy) of Tokyo, Japan, Abby (Michael) Bradley of Dallas, TX, Stephanie (Mike) Doss of Heyworth, Mandi Hornickel of Chicago, Lindsey Hornickel (Scott Hay) of Clinton, Jessica Hornickel of Maroa, Bethany (John) Chilsted, Brittany Myers, all of Bloomington; 4 great-grandchildren: Shafer and Harper Fleischmann, Adam Doss, and Bianca Hay; brothers: W. Neil, (Pat) of Chatsworth, Dale Francis of River Grove; one sister: Maxine Zorn of Fairbury.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law: Clair Zorn.
He served Germanville Township for a total of 32 years with the last 16 years as supervisor. After high school, he worked at Caterpillar in Peoria for one winter. He devoted his life to his family and farming in the Germanville area since 1943. He left behind his buddy, Blackie, his cat.
