Obit of Frieda (Myer) Schaffter

Frieda L. Schaffter, 95, of Chillicothe and formerly of Onarga and Chatsworth passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Heritage Health Nursing Home in Chillicothe. She was born on November 25, 1919 in Jewett, IL, the daughter of William and Minnie Cooley Myers. Frieda married Lawrence LaMoine Schaffter in Obion County, TN on November 12, 1939 and he preceded her in death on September 21, 1989. Survivors include two daughters, Marsha (Marty) Claypool of Chillicothe and Carol Lewis of Buckeye, AZ; one son, Gary (Chris) Schaffter of Peoria Heights, IL; eight grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. Frieda was preceded in death by three brothers, Lloyd, Howard and Jim Myers and two sisters, Cleone Shoemaker and Jenny Oakley. Frieda was a member of the Methodist Church. She worked at Best Supermarket in Onarga for several years. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until the 1:00 p.m. funeral service on Monday, July 20, 2015 at the Knapp Funeral Home in Onarga. Rev. Elizabeth Reis will officiate. Burial will be in the Onarga Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Heritage Health Nursing Home in Chillicothe or the donor’s choice.
