Obit of Thomas S. Askew

FAIRBURY — Thomas S. Askew, 80, Fairbury, died at 8:20 p.m. Monday (Feb. 27, 2012) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.
A private graveside service will be at Chatsworth Cemetery, Chatsworth. Cremation rites will be accorded. There will be no visitation.
Memorials in Tom’s name may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Calvert & Martin Funeral Home, Forrest, is handling arrangements.
Tom was born June 25, 1931, at Pontiac, a son of Albert and Evelyn Schade Askew.
He married Gretta L. Lang on Feb. 2, 1974, at Lexington, Ky. She survives in Fairbury.
Also surviving are four daughters, Cindy (Larry) Bell and Linda Rhodes, both of Forrest; Toni (Danny) Graham, Chatsworth; and Cathy Carpenter, Florida; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Tom was preceded in death by one son, Thomas Askew, and one daughter, Vicki Pike.
Tom was educated in Chatsworth schools and retired from the U.S. military, serving four years in the U.S. Air Force and 16 years in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Fairbury American Legion.
