Obit of Hilda (Cohernour) Cox

Hilda Mae Cox, 83, of Gilman, IL., formerly of Thawville, IL., died at 6:50 A.M., Thursday, March 15, 2012 at the Gilman Health Care Center, Gilman. Her funeral service will be at 2:30 P.M. on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at the Redenius Funeral Home, Gilman with Pastor Brian King officiating. Burial will be in Ridgeland Township Cemetery, Thawville. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:30 P.M. Sunday, March 18, 2012 at the Redenius Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Thawville American Legion Auxiliary, American Diabetes Association or Donor's Choice.
Hilda was born on September 6, 1928 in Charleston, West Virginia to Harvey & Modenia (Munday) Cohernour. She moved to Chatsworth in her early childhood. Hilda attended Chatsworth schools. Her first husband was to Guy Baker, she later married D. Gene Cox on June 2, 1956 in Thawville. Surviving children - Casandra (Robert) Jacobs of Thawville, Kimberly "K.C." (Sarita) Cox of Normal, IL., Valerie Cox of Roberts, IL., and Katana (Todd) Cook of Onarga, IL. Four grandchildren - Tisha Holden, Kameron Cox, Trenton Jacobs, and Cyrus Cook. Two great-grandchildren - Tannor and Chesnie Holden. Four sisters - Bernice Bender of Fairbury, IL., Judith (Bob) Reisinger of Mission Viejo, CA., Mariel Centobie of Tustin, CA., and Laurie (Jim) Kadow of Bourbonnais, IL., and one brother - Franklin (Jane) Cohernour of Avon, IN. Hilda is preceded in death by her parents, first husband, one sister - Lisa, and three brothers Lee, Ernie and Elden Cohernour.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Thawville. Hilda had also lived in Onarga for a brief time. She was a homemaker and waitress for 25 years working at Hicks Plaza and the Gilman Restaurant and Lounge. Her memberships included the Thawville American Legion Auxiliary and the Friday 13th Card Club. Hilda enjoyed playing cards, entertaining, baking, collecting chicken and rooster figurines and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
