Obit of Richard J. Ortman

Richard J. Ortman, 93, of Kankakee, passed away Thursday (July 12, 2018) at Miller Health Care Center in Kankakee. He was born Oct. 12, 1924, in Chatsworth, the son of Charles and Mabel Farber Ortman. Richard married Georgia Trombley July 13, 1946, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Kankakee. She preceded him in death Sept. 13, 2012. Richard was a retired rural mail carrier. He also owned a bar and grill, D + G Corner. Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of St. John PaulII Catholic Church, West Campus, 953 S. Ninth Ave., Kankakee (formerly St. Martin of Tours). He and his wife, Georgia, were among the founding members of St. Martin of Tours. Richard also was a member of Knights of Columbus, the Kankakee American Legion and VFW. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, watching Chicago sports, playing cards and watching his grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s sporting events. Surviving are two sons and two daughters-in-law, Greg and Donna Ortman, of Bourbonnais, and Steven and Carey Ortman, of St. Anne; one daughter, Robin Ahramovich, of Bourbonnais; 10 grandchildren, Vanessa Norfleet, Matthew Ortman, Amanda Clifford, David Ahramovich, Anna Kolokythas, Bubba “Adam” Ahramovich, Christina Nakanishi, Samuel Ortman, Daniel Ortman and Stephanie Grosso; 23 greatgrandchildren; and two sisters and one brother-in-law, Catherine (Ira) Lawless, of Kankakee, and Rita DesMarteau, of Kankakee. In addition to his wife, he was preceded him in death by his parents; one son, Richard Ortman; one grandson, Josh Ahramovich; one son-in-law, Stanley Ahramovich Jr.; and two brothers, Francis Ortman and Robert Ortman. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 15, at Clancy-Gernon-Hertz Funeral Home in Kankakee. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 16, at St. John PaulII Catholic Church, West Campus, 953 S. Ninth Ave., Kankakee (formerly St. Martin of Tours). Burial willfollow in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Kankakee. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley or to Masses at St. John PaulII Catholic Church, West Campus.
