Chatsworth's Oldest Citizen Passes
Verla L. Tauber, 101, of Chatsworth, IL passed away at 6:30 pm on Sunday, January 1, 2017 at Piper City
Rehab and Living Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 5, 2016 at Sts. Peter and Paul
Catholic Church in Chatsworth with Father Richard Brunskill officiating. Visitation will be held two hours prior to
services at the church. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery inKouts, IN at 4:00 pm on
Thursday afternoon. Memorial contributions in Verla’s name may be made to H.O.P.E. Church, Futures
Unlimited, or Chatsworth Fire and EMS. Calvert & Martin Funeral Home in Chatsworth is handling
arrangements for the family.
Verla was born March 3, 1915 in Kouts, IN a daughter of Joseph and Gertie (Downey) Craig. She married
Sam Tauber on October 9, 1953 in Valparaiso, IN. He passed away on November 24, 1979.
She is survived by her daughter: Kay (Mark) Grizzle of Chatsworth, IL; one son: Samuel (Bobbi) Tauber of
Greeley, CO; two grandchildren: Heather Grizzle and Nicole (Mike) Scott; three great grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter:Jane, two brothers, and two sisters.
Verla grew up in Kouts, IN. She was a nurses' aide. She was a lifelong Catholic being baptized at St. Mary's
Catholic Church in Kouts, IN and being a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Chatsworth since
the 1950's. She loved her church and also belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society in Indiana and Illinois.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be greatly missed.
