Obit of Mary Ann (Hitch) Boruff

Mary Ann Boruff, 75, of Chatsworth, passed away at 7:45 pm, Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria. Funeral Services will be 11 am, Saturday, September 29, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Fairbury; with Pastor Daryl Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Chatsworth Township Cemetery, Chatsworth. A visitation will be 9 to 11 am, prior to her funeral service also at the church in Fairbury. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury is in charge of services. Memorial contributions may be directed to First Baptist Church of Fairbury. Mary Ann was born June 6, 1943 in Fairbury the daughter of Alfred and Edna (Heinz) Hitch. She married Larry Boruff on January 10, 1961 in Chatsworth. Her husband Larry survives in Chatsworth. Other survivors include two daughters, Vicki (Sadat) Mostafa of Iowa City, IA; Corinne (Jack) Wortz of Delaware, OH; two grandchildren, Samantha Mostafa of Iowa City, IA; David Wortz of Delaware, OH. She was preceded in death by her parents and one granddaughter, Christine Morgan. Mary Ann was a familiar face at Dave’s Supermarket in Fairbury. She retired after 20 years of employment at the grocery store in Fairbury. She always had an afghan to enter in the Fairbury Fair and loved to put puzzles together in her free time. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Fairbury.

Obit to Richard W. Friedman

Richard W. Friedman, 82, Fairbury, died at 11:12 am Sunday, September 23, 2018 at OSF St. James-John Albrecht Medical Center, Pontiac. Visitation will be 1:00 to 4:00 pm Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury. His graveside service will be 2:00 pm Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Avoca Twp. Cemetery, Fairbury with Pastor Tom Krieger officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the Fairbury VFW and American Legion posts. The family suggests memorials be given to the Fairbury Sportsman’s Club. Mr. Friedman was born June 3, 1936 in Chatsworth, IL the son of Tony and Olive Bachtold Friedman. He married Sandra Grieder on March 7, 1960 in Dixon, IL. She survives in Fairbury. Other survivors include a son, Kevin Friedman, Fairbury, a daughter, Krista Friedman, Bloomington, five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two sisters, Bertha Sharp, Chatsworth, Hazel Johnson, Fairbury, four brothers, John Friedman, Piper City, Henry (Marjorie) Friedman, Fairbury, Alvin (Doris) Friedman, Florida, and Glen (Carol) Friedman, Waco, TX. He is preceded in death by a son, Klint Friedman, four brothers and one sister. Mr. Friedman was a 1954 graduate of Fairbury-Cropsey High School. He served in the US Army and later in the Army Reserves (1957-1963). He worked as a meat cutter at the Pontiac Correctional Facility for twenty-two years. After retirement Richard continued to process deer during hunting season for many friends and family. He enjoyed antiquing with his wife Sandy and was an avid deer and bear hunter.

Obit of James Thomas Moody, Jr.

James Thomas Moody, Jr. 76 of Chatsworth, died Sunday (Sept. 23, 2018) at OSF Saint James - John W. Albrecht Medical Center in Pontiac, IL. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at Calvert & Martin Funeral Home in Chatsworth with a funeral service to follow at 7:00 pm. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date at Graceland Fairlawn Cemetery in Decatur, IL. James was born May 14, 1942, in DuBois, PA, a son of James Thomas, Sr. and Anna Lucille Moody. He married Shirley Griffith, and they had four children together. He later married Georgianna Poling on April 25, 1981, in Decatur, IL and they shared 30 years together. She preceded him on February 22, 2011. He is survived by his children, Michele Slunder, Decatur; Thomas “Mike” (Ann) Moody, Chatsworth; Jamie (Scott) Jefson, Shelbyville; Amanda “Mandy” Crispen, Dwight; 13 grandchildren, Vanessa (Caleb) Kelson, Sami (Scott) Glover, Brad Moody, Kyle Moody, Mallory Jefson, Evan Slunder, Carmen (Eddie) Armstrong, Courtney Moody, Skyler Gamble, Lyle Jefson, Justin Moody, Jordan Moody and Mikayla Gamble; one brother: Fred (Cheryl) Moody of Madisonville, KY. He was in preceded in death by his parents, one son and daughter-in-law, Justin and Candace Moody and one son-in-law, Jeffrey Slunder. James graduated from DuBois High School and went on to graduate from LeTourneau College in Longview, TX. Early in his career he worked as an industrial engineer. Later he returned to his passion of working on cars at Red’s Garage. He served as a volunteer firefighter most of his adult life and was very active as a Son of the American Legion. He greatly enjoyed hosting annual Christmas gatherings and legendary Easter egg hunts at his home for all his grandchildren. He also enjoyed spending time bowling and camping. In his retirement, he greatly enjoyed golfing with his friends, NASCAR races and watching Steelers & Cubs games. Memorials may be made to the Chatsworth Fire Department or the Chatsworth Sons of the American Legion.

Obit of Eldon J. Brunner

Husband of Gladys Dassow Brunner
Eldon J. Brunner, 95 of Reddick passedaway August 31, 2018 at Miller Rehab Center, Kankakee, IL.He was born March 31, 1923, on the family farm, in Reddick, IL to George A. and Laura M. (Oberlin) Brunner. Elton married Gladys Dassow July 9, 1945 in Chatsworth,IL and she died March 10, 2012. Eldon attended University of Illinois but that was interrupted to proudly serve our country in World WarII as an Army Pilot from December 10, 1942 to December 17,1947 and continued in the Reserves until March 15, 1967. Hewas a mechanical and nuclear engineer, a flight instructor, an aircraft engineer and a Nuclear Safety Engineer. Eldon was a member of the Lions Club, Zoar Church, the school band and a volunteer Ambulance Driver and the Fire Department. He is survived by a son and daughter-inlaw; Roger (Niesje) Brunner of Fairbanks, AK and a daughter and son-in-law,Betty (Joe) Roza of Santa Rosa, CA. Also surviving are 3grand children; Laura (Grayson) Brunner of Fairbanks, AK, Jill(Tristan) Brunner Scott of Bellvue, WA, and Stephanie Roza of Santa Rosa, CA, 4 great grandchildren; Anna Valerie Westfall of Fairbanks, AK, Jackson Brunner Westfall of Fairbanks, AK,Cameron Brunner Scott of Bellvue, WA and Nathan BrunnerScott of Bellvue, WA.Eldon was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys (Dassow)Brunner and great grandson, Christopher Joseph Roza.The memorialservice will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 10th at Zoar Church, Reddick, IL. Rev. Joan and Bill Dean will officiate. Burial with military honors will be at Abraham Lincoln NationalCemetery, Elwood, IL.
