Doris K. Salzman, age 87, of rural Chebanse, IL, formerly of Chatsworth, passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2014 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, IL. Doris was born on May 18, 1926 in Champaign, IL the daughter of Henry E and Florence A Kelly. She was a 1948 graduate of the University of Illinois graduating with a Bachelors in Mathematics. After college Doris went on to work for State Farm until 1951. On March 17, 1951 she married Paul Salzman at Herald of Hope Baptist Church in Urbana, IL. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Kankakee, IL where she taught Sunday School for many years and was active in the Women’s Missionary Fellowship. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and was an active partner with Paul around the farm.
Doris is survived by her children, Jo Anne (Jon) Stenbuck of Attleboro, MA, John (Kristin) Salzman of Magnolia, IL, Alice Salzman of Downers Grove, IL, and Fred Salzman of Greensboro, N.C., three grandchildren Francisca Stenbuck, and Emily and Aaron Salzman, a sister-in-law George-Anne “Jan” Kelly, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Ralph and Burt Kelly, and a sister-in-law Roberta Kelly.
A time of gathering will take place on Thursday, January 30, 2014 from 3pm-7pm at Schreffler Life Story Funeral Homes Kankakee Chapel and on Friday, January 31, 2014 from 9am until the time of service at 10am at Immanuel Baptist Church in Kankakee, IL followed by an interment at Kankakee Memorial Gardens in Kankakee, IL.
In lieu of flowers memorials to Harbor House or to Immanuel Baptist Church would be appreciated.
