Obit of Doyle D. Adamson



ROBERTS – Doyle D. Adamson, 74, of rural Roberts, formerly of Mahomet, died at 2:37 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 26, 2014) at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal. Doyle was born Jan. 23, 1940, in Fairbury, to Wayne and Sylvia (Kortz) Adamson. On May 9, 1959, he married the love of his life, Deloras Jean Brauman at the Congregational Church, Thawville.
He is survived by his wife, "Dee" of rural Roberts; his daughter, Karla (Chris) Butterick of Rantoul; his son, Jeffrey of rural Roberts; grandsons, Ethan and Wyatt Butterick of Rantoul; sister, Janet Adamson of Newman; and brother, Royce Adamson of Gilbertsville, Ky.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Dolores Adamson.
Doyle's education began by walking to a rural Chatsworth country school and then attending Chatsworth Grade School, Roberts Thawville Junior High School, Gibson City High School and Newman High School, where he graduated in 1958. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was trained at the U.S. Navy Nuclear Power School in Groton, Conn., and served on the USS Laffey, the USS Bainbridge and the USS Enterprise. Following sea duty, he taught at the U.S. Navy Nuclear Power Site in Arco, Idaho, and later transferred to Great Lakes Naval Station in Chicago, where he retired after 20 years of military service as a machinist mate chief master (MMCM) E-9.
Doyle then attended Parkland College and Eastern Illinois University, earning his bachelor's degree. He taught at Mahomet-Seymour High School and Fisher High School, retiring in 2001. Doyle was a born teacher and loved working with his students. Shortly after retiring from the school system, the Adamsons moved from Mahomet to the Brauman family farm in rural Roberts. Doyle occupied his leisure time by bird and critter watching and designing special projects for use around the farm.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at Redenius Funeral Home in Gilman. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at Redenius Funeral Home, Gilman. Pastor Brian King will officiate. Burial, with military honors by the Piper City American Legion Gibb Post 588, will be in Brenton Township Cemetery, Piper City.
