Dale L. Gerdes, 65 of rural Chatsworth, Il., died Friday, January 3, 2014 at 2:07 am at Carle Foundation Hospital, Champaign, Il.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 11 am at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chatsworth with Jerry Gentes, minister of Pastoral Care officiating. Burial will be in Chatsworth Cemetery where full military rites will be accorded. A visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials in Dale's name may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Calvert & Martin Funeral Home, Chatsworth is handling the arrangements.
Dale was born on April 21, 1949 in Fairbury, Il., a son of Leo and Melicent (Blair) Gerdes. Survivors include two brothers: Steve Gerdes of Ironwood, Mi. and Brian Gerdes of Rantoul, Il.; One sister, Marlene (Ed) Clampitt of Rantoul, Il. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, one son in infancy, one brother, David Gerdes and one sister Diane Gerdes.
Dale was educated in Chatsworth schools and was a mechanic and self-employed truck driver. He served our country in the Army National Guard from 1966-1972. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chatsworth.
