Bernice F. "Bea" Haag, 96, passed away Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017, at Beach Homes, Costa Mesa, Calif. She was born in Mokena on Feb. 17, 1920, to Bernard Hostert and Viola (Lauffer) Hostert. She graduated from Cullom High School and was a long-time Cullom resident. Bernice had a lengthy career as the personnel director at NicholsHomeshield, the "screen factory," in Chatsworth. She traveled extensively throughout her life with her husband, Vernon. She was instrumental in the establishment and funding of the Cullom-Beckman Memorial Library, working with the family to secure sustaining donations. She is survived by her sister, Norma Boyce; a daughter, Janet Robertson (Alastair); sons, Ray (Lynn) and Ron (Marilyn); four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-greatgrandchildren; and many cousins, nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Viola; her husband, Vernon; her brothers, Arthur and Charles "Chuck"; and a sister, Eleanor Reaney. An open house/service will be scheduled at a later date in Cullom. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cullom-Beckman Memorial Library, 103 W. Hack St., Cullom, IL 60929; the Cullom United Methodist Church, 103 E. Van Alstyne St., Cullom, IL 60929 or a charity of the donor's choice.
Note: Bernice was not from Chatsworth, but everyone knew her!
