Obit of Margaret E. (Shell) Herink
CANTON - Margaret E. Herink, 91, of Canton passed away at 12:17 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015, at
Heartland Healthcare Center in Canton.
She was born in Piper City, Ill., on March 28, 1923, to Adam and Bessie (Eaker) Shell. She married Homer
"Bill" R. Herink on Christmas Eve, 1948, in Chatsworth, Ill. He preceded her in death on March 9, 2010.
Surviving are three children, Constance (Hal) Maples of St. Peters, Mo., Ronald (Judy) Herink of Borden,
Ind., and Frederick (Karol) Herink of Canton; six grandchildren, Leia Knapp, Adam Herink, A.J. Herink, Tim
Herink, Amy Herink and Joe Herink; one great-granddaughter, Keira Knapp; and one sister, Helen Babcock
of Washington, Ill.
Also preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers and four sisters.
She received her bachelor's degree in teaching from ISU. She was a teacher at Central Grade School in
Canton and taught for 12 years at Lacon and Varna.
She was a member of the Canton First Presbyterian Church and a past member of the Eastern Star in
Canton. She was also a member of the Graham Hospital Service League and served on the Spoon River
Library District Board.
She enjoyed sewing and gardening.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 27, 2015, at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home in Canton,
where visitation will be held Thursday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. The Rev. Tim Bauler will officiate. Burial will
follow in White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton.
