Mr. William “Bill” Brumfield, 72, of Chatsworth, IL, and formerly of Barry, Il. died on Thursday, March 14, 2013, at the Advocate Bromenn Hospital in Normal, IL. He was born in Washburn, WI on August 11, 1940 to M. William and G. Joan Haiden Brumfield. He married Sandi Pelican on September 14, 1968 in Columbia, MO, and she survives.
Mr. Brumfield taught elementary and junior high education-art. He was a graduate of the University of Missouri with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, and did graduate work in Art. Bill was an Alumni of the University of Missouri Association. He received his teaching certificate from Hannibal-LaGrange College. He had taught in the Tri-Point School District at Piper City, IL. He had also served as a truant officer for the Pike-Adams Regional Superintendent of Schools. In addition, he was a substitute teacher for the Barry School District. He also coached girls’ softball in Barry. He had also worked for over 20 years as a diesel mechanic at Missouri Gravel. He was a member of the Kiwanis and the Barry Masonic Lodge # 34 AF & AM. Bill had also served as the Chairman of the Barry Apple Festival.
He enjoyed woodworking, art both abstract and surreal (painting, drawings in pencil, oils, and acrylics). He was an avid reader who enjoyed crossword puzzles and cryptograms. He enjoyed kids. He loved his family and especially loved his granddaughters.
Survivors include his wife Sandi of Chatsworth, IL, a son, Jonathan (Jennifer) Brumfield of Bolingbrook, IL , two daughters, Jennifer Brumfield of Elgin, IL, and Erin (Cef) Brumfield Grima of Hanover Park, IL, two brothers, Robert (Sandy) Brumfield of Columbia, MO, and Gerald (Irma) Brumfield of Rocheport, MO, a sister, Linda Johnson of Rocheport, MO, two granddaughters, Eleanor and Scarlett, along with nine nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Karen in infancy.
