Geneva L. Hurt
(February 24, 1931 - June 30, 2014)
Geneva L. Hurt, 83, of Piper City, IL, died at 8:25 P.M., Monday, June 30, 2014 at her home. Her funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at The United Methodist Church, Piper City with the Rev. Elizabeth Reis officiating. Burial will be in Brenton Cemetery, Piper City. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 A.M. Thursday, July 3, 2014 at the United Methodist Church, Piper City. Memorials may be made the United Methodist Church, Piper City or to the Iroquois Memorial Hospice.
Geneva was born on February 24, 1931 in Kempton, IL., to Homer and Jesse Hopper Sorey. She spent her childhood in Illinois and Tennessee. She married Junior Lee Hurt on June 7, 1950 in Pontiac, IL. He died November 17 ,2013. Survivors include her children Gary (Rose) Hurt and Debbie (Mike) Brown all of Pontiac,IL., Randy Hurt of Piper City. Three Sisters Shirley Mynatt of Knoxville, TN., Helen Beckhoff of Fairbury, IL. and Carol (Richard) Dawson of Mansfield, IL. Six grandchildren, eleven great-grand-children and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter Vicki Brand, two brothers James and Charles and two sisters Joan and Belle. Geneva was a homemaker and also was a factory worker at American Screen and a waitress at Azz Izz. She enjoyed reading, gardening and cooking.
