From Chatsworth Illinois Memories From www.pantagraph.com Husband of Jean Johnson BLOOMINGTON — R. Bruce Holcomb passed away Monday (May 17, 2010). A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington. He was born in St. Louis, Mo., on May 1, 1931, grew up in Chicago, and was proud to call Bloomington his home for more than 50 years. He is survived by his wife, Jean, and two sons, Larry, a colonel in the Marine Corps, and John, a nurse just out of the Public Health Service. Also surviving are one brother-in-law, Joe Johnson, Barefoot Bay, Fla., and a cousin, Mary Alverson, Normal. Bruce attended Colorado A&M and graduated from Illinois State University. During his 33-year career in education, he taught in Bloomington School District 87, served as assistant principal of Bloomington Junior High, principal of Lincoln School, principal of Irving School, and was elected for three terms as Regional Superintendent of Schools for McLean and DeWitt Counties. He was active in many professional education organizations. He served his country during the Korean War and an American flag would always be seen flying from his residence and motor home. Traveling, friends and family were his passion. He and Jean had many unique and memorable times in their 57 years of marriage. Beck Memorial Home, Bloomington, is in charge of arrangements.
