The memorial service for Robert J. Thomsen, 77, a resident of Piper City Rehab, Piper City, and formerly of Chatsworth, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Chatsworth United Methodist Church, the Rev. R. David Reynolds officiating.
Inurnment will be in Chatsworth Cemetery, Chatsworth, with military rites accorded by the Gibson City American Legion Post 568.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service Sunday at the church.
Martin-Burke Funeral Home, Chatsworth, has charge of arrangements.
Mr. Thomsen died at 8:35 a.m. Wednesday Jan. 27, 2010, at Gibson Area Hospital, Gibson City.
He was born May 27, 1932, at Gibson City, the son of John F. and Dora (Holz) Thomsen. He married Betty Huron March 18, 1960, at Gibson City. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Vicki (Lynn) Harn, Chatsworth; three sons, Scott (Val Orsay), Chatsworth, Alan Thomsen, Bloomington and Kirk (Judy) Thomsen, Gainesville, Ga.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty (Lloyd) Shaw, Champaign; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, John; one daughter, Kim Endres; one brother, Roger; and one sister, Barbara Coit.
He graduated from Drummer Township High School in 1950.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1951 and served our country in the Mediterranean until being honorably discharged in 1954.
He then attended and graduated from Illinois State Normal University in 1959.
Robert was a teacher for 30 years, and taught at the Chatsworth Junior High for 23 years. He also coached boys basketball, baseball and football.
He was a member of IESA and NEA and the Gibson City American Legion Post 568.
