Richard Wilson Sargarent, Sr., of Woodbridge, VA departed this life Friday, April 20, 2018, after a lengthy illness. He was 82 years old. He was born on December 8, 1935, in Cabery, IL to the late Wayne and Edna (Wilson) Sargeant. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1959 and retired as Lt. Commander. He worked as a Systems Engineer for several government contractors until his retirement in 2002. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nancy Shaheen Sargeant; his daughter, Nanette Sargeant of Chantilly, VA; his son, Richard Sargeant, Jr. (Michael) of Washington, DC; his granddaughters, Elizabeth and Christine Bruening of Chantilly, VA; his sister, Kay Brown of University Park, IL and his brother, Roger Sargeant of Naperville, IL. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, May 5 at Sydenstricker United Methodist Church, 8508 Hooes Road, Springfield, VA 22153. A private interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the National Parkinson Foundation (www.parkinson.org ) or Sydenstricker United Methodist Church.
