Obit of Arleen (Shols) Newby

KNOXVILLE - Arleen Newby of Knoxville died Oct. 27, 2018 following a brief illness. She was 89. She was born Aug. 29, 1929, in Chatsworth to Clarence and Florence (Miller) Shols and was raised on the family farm. She graduated from Chatsworth High School in 1947 and Illinois State University in 1951. She married Max Newby on Oct. 25, 1953. He died in 2016. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her brother Donald Shols. She is survived by their sons Stephen (Roberta) Newby of Independence, Missouri, and Thomas (Karen) Newby of Princeton, four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was a full-time homemaker when her children were young. She later worked as a legal secretary for John Hanlon and Dale Ruedig in Galesburg. She was an active member of the Knoxville United Methodist Church, including United Methodist Women and many other activities. Max and Arleen enjoyed dancing with several other couples for many years. They enjoyed traveling and spending time with their family and friends. The family would like to thank Courtyard Estates in Knoxville and Hospice Compassus for their care. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018, at Knoxville United Methodist Church. The funeral service will directly follow at 11 a.m. Interment will be in the Knoxville Cemetery. Rev. Steve Hartman will be officiating the services. Memorial contributions may be left to Knoxville United Methodist Church. The Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory in Knoxville is assisting the family with arrangements. Obit of Mary L. (Haag) Walsh

Mary L. Walsh, 96, of Onarga, IL Passed away at 8:25 A.M. Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Prairieview Lutheran Home Danforth, IL. Following a short illness. Her funeral will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday October 27, 2018 at the Presbyterian Church in Piper City, IL with the Rev. Wade Ditty officiating. Burial will be in the Brenton Cemetery, Piper City. A visitation will be from 1:00 until the time of services on Saturday. Memorials may be made to Ovarian Cancer Research or The Presbyterian Church. Mary was born February 5, 1922 in Cullom, IL at the home of her parents Walter E. and Minnie L. Farber Haag. She attended rural Cullom schools, graduating from Cullom High School in 1939. After graduation she attended the Gallagher Business School in Kankakee, IL She married Arthur L. “Pete” Walsh on April 25, 1942 in Cullom, IL. He preceded her in death May 13, 2007. Mary is survived by a Grandson, Rich and Judy Morrison of Murrayville, IL A granddaughter, Jill and Richard Hirsch of Lake Villa, IL Great Grandchildren Cameron Morrison, Ashley, Amber and Autumn Brown, Matthew and Austin Hirsch. One, Son-in-law Wayne and Kathy Morrison of Piper City, IL One sister-in-law Connie Haag of Cullom. Also surviving are nieces, nephews and cousins She was preceded in death by her daughter Joyce Morrison, three sisters, Fern who died in infancy, Helen Bartell and Dolores (Bruno) Jasin. Three brothers Herbert (Marge) Hagg , Vernon (Bernice) Haag and LeRoy Haag. One niece, Jan Jasin and two nephews, Bob Jasin and Brad Haag. Mary worked in the accounting departments at the Elgin Watch Factory in Elgin, IL, a department store in Salt Lake City, Utah, Webster’s Jewelry Store in Hays, Kansas and retired after 27 years from Nichols Home Shield in Chatsworth, IL. Mary was a member of the Piper City Presbyterian Church and the Circle 8 Square Dance Club. She enjoyed watching tennis and golf on television, even into the wee hours on the morning. Obit of Roger W. Coventry

Roger W. Coventry, 87, Normal and formerly of Chatsworth, died on Monday, October 15, 2018 at Advocate Bromenn Regional Medical Center, Normal. Visitation will be held from 9:30–11:30 am, Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury. The family requests no flowers. Memorials may be made to the Illinois Wesleyan University Music Department. Mr. Coventry was born December 15, 1930 in Kirksville, IL. He married Suzanne Livingston on June 18, 1955 on the Livingston Family Farm in Chatsworth. She survives in Normal. Also surviving are three daughters, Kari (Dan) Smith of Blue Island, IL, Martha (Dale) Graber of St. Paul, MN, and Elizabeth Miller of Milwaukee, WI; seven grandchildren, Ben Smith, Lena Smith, Amelia (Dan) Graber Jacobs, Rachel Graber, Rosalie Graber, Sam Miller and Eli Miller; one great-grandson, Amos Jacobs; and one sister, Jane (Shawn) Livingston, Lexington, KY. Mr. Coventry received vocal performance degrees from Illinois Wesleyan University and University of Arizona and later became a vocal teacher throughout central Illinois for 20 years. After his retirement, he continued to volunteer his time and talents to bring music to preschoolers as well as to many memory care centers. Music was his passion and his family was the love of his life. He will be missed dearly.

Obit of Ronald E. Perkins

Ronald E. ‘Ron’ Perkins, 76, of Normal passed away at 11:55 p.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at his residence. His Celebration of Life service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at The Baby Fold Chapel, 612 Oglesby Ave, Normal, IL 61761 with Pastor Cara McMorris officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be directed to his children. Ron was born in Fairbury on July 25, 1942, a son to Herbert E. and Margery Hoff Perkins. He married Regino ‘Reggie’ Dizon on August 27, 2013 in San Francisco, CA. He is survived by his loving husband, Reggie Dizon of Normal; his children Rhonda (Mike) McComas, Michele (Tom) McComas, and Jon (Tracy) Perkins all of Bloomington; five grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, Ron was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Judith Green. He was employed for many years as a special education teacher, first at Bloomington High School, where he played a vital role in vocational and alternative programs, changing many student’s lives. Ron was also influential in starting an education program for individuals at William Fox Developmental Center in Dwight which improved many lives. Later he continued his passion for special education at Spaulding Elementary School in Gurnee, Whitney M. Young Magnet High School in Chicago, and Hirsch Metropolitan High School in Chicago retiring in 2011. Ron was an avid card player, often traveling to Chatsworth, IL, his former place of residence, to engage in a friendly game or two. He also had a love for his family and his animals. Ron was a devoted grandfather and great-grandfather. If he was not in the company of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he was most certainly surrounded by his husband and their dogs.
