Obit of Jan (Conibear) Yoder
Jan Yoder, 68, of Normal, IL passed away at 9:49pm, Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at OSF
Richard L. Owen Hospice Home in Peoria, IL. She was born on January 3, 1950, in
Fairbury, IL, daughter of the late Joseph and Leona White Conibear. Jan had
completed her BS in Art and owned her own flower shop in Chatsworth, was a crafter
and co-owned Sisters Victorian Tea Room in Normal. Surviving her two children
Jessica (Kyle) Hardy of Princeton, IL and Joseph (Jenny) Yoder of Normal, IL. Also
surviving are four grandchildren, one brother Grant (Marianne) Conibear CHS 1952
of Northport, FL and one sister Julie (Don) Schultz CHS 1969 of Reddick, IL. Further
surviving are her fiancé Phil Proctor of Normal, IL. One son Jason and one sister
preceded her in death Cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial visitation
will be held at 10:00 am on July 28th at the Calvary Baptist Church in Chatsworth, IL
with a memorial service to follow at 10:30 am. Burial of her remains will be in
Chatsworth-Charlotte Cemetery in Chatsworth, IL. To share memories and

Obit of Hazel (Stephens) Honzik
Seminole, FL – Hazel Honzik, 99, of Seminole, FL, peacefully passed away Saturday, June 23, 2018, at Freedom Square Nursing Pavilion, Seminole, FL. Cremation has been accorded. A graveside service will be held at 10:00am, Friday, July 27, 2018, at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Wing with Pastor Lynette Barnett Officiating. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury is in charge of arrangements. Hazel was born February 23, 1919, in Chatsworth, the daughter of Shelby and Clella (Perkins) Stephens. Hazel married Earl Hiles and later married Tony Honzik. Survivors include her brother, Thomas (Carolyn) Stephens, Forrest,; sister-in-law, Marge Stephens, Fairbury; brothers-in-law, Bernard (Dianne) Brucker, Colfax, Donald Fortna, Urbana; and many nieces and nephews. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and three sisters. Hazel worked in Ben Franklin Dime Stores in Wilmington and later moved to Florida, enjoying her life and traveling.
Obit of Barbara Jean (Warder) Bertram
Barbara Bertram, 83 of Roberts and formerly of Melvin, died at 4:15 a.m. Saturday (July 14, 2018) at her home in Roberts. Her memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Roberts with the Rev. Priscilla Geerdes officiating. Burial will follow at the Chatsworth Cemetery in Chatsworth. Mrs. Bertram was born March 4, 1935, in Chatsworth a daughter of Joseph and Mabel Bargmann Warder. She married Wayne Bertram on July 27, 1953, in Hoopeston. He died Dec. 15, 2013. Surviving are two daughters, Catherine (Wayne) Hunter of Roberts, and Lorie (Patrick) Enriquez of Alamogordo, N.M., a son, Richard (Becky) Bertram of Smithfield, Va., nine grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren, a brother, Jerry (Patricia) Teter of Bourbonnais, and two sisters, Lois (Keith) Brucker, and Josephine Johnson, both of Melvin. She was preceded in death by an infant sister, a grandson and her stepfather, Donie Teter. Barbara quilted with the Chatsworth Lutheran Church for many years. She attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Roberts and enjoyed bingo, auctions, her cats and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Melvin Roberts Fire Rescue, Hospice Hearts, or Transitions Hospice. Lamb Funeral Home in Gibson City is in charge of arrangements.

Derrick is the 2018 Director of the Ford County Historical Society
This event is planned on the anniversary of the wreck. I have permission from one property owner to search the area of the wreck site. I just ask anyone involved that day be respectful of the property and the site. The site is about a half mile walk in some overgrown areas. If you have never been there before, it's an enlighting place to visit when you think of the events that took place there over one hundred years ago.
Obit of Charles J. Perkins
Charles J. Perkins, 85 of Chenoa, passed away at 5:00 am, Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community, Chenoa. Per Chuck’s request cremation rites have been accorded. There will be a celebration of his life at a later date. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Central Illinois Small Animal Rescue & Care Center, Colfax. Charles was born February 17, 1933 in Chatsworth; a son to James R. and Annis (Harlan) Perkins. He married Marlene Henline on October 27, 1951 in Chenoa. His wife survives in Meadows. His parents, one brother, Kenneth Perkins and one sister, LouElla Mounce preceded him in death. Other survivors include one daughter, Patricia (Kevin) Coomes of Long Prairie, MN; one son, Timothy (Colleen) Perkins of Hohenwald, TN;two granddaughters, Bria (Wesley) Sancken of Forrest; Kaleigh Ziegler of Pekin; two grandsons, Kyle Coomes of Cold Spring, MN; Andrew Adams of Wenona; four great grandchildren, Brynn Runyon, Willow Sancken, Drake Ziegler, Wyatt Adams and one great grandchild coming soon. Also surviving are one sister, Marlene Thompson of CA; one brother, Donald (Pat) Perkins of Fairbury. Chuck was a machinist at General Electric, Bloomington, Caterpillar in Pontiac, and Weber Metal in Chenoa. He loved his family and was known as the “Neighborhood Grandpa” to many in Chenoa. He was an avid Motorcycle nut and enjoyed riding for many years. His quiet Teddy Bear personality will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Obit of Richard J. Ortman
Richard J. Ortman, 93, of Kankakee, passed away Thursday (July 12, 2018) at Miller Health Care Center in Kankakee. He was born Oct. 12, 1924, in Chatsworth, the son of Charles and Mabel Farber Ortman. Richard married Georgia Trombley July 13, 1946, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Kankakee. She preceded him in death Sept. 13, 2012. Richard was a retired rural mail carrier. He also owned a bar and grill, D + G Corner. Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of St. John PaulII Catholic Church, West Campus, 953 S. Ninth Ave., Kankakee (formerly St. Martin of Tours). He and his wife, Georgia, were among the founding members of St. Martin of Tours. Richard also was a member of Knights of Columbus, the Kankakee American Legion and VFW. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, watching Chicago sports, playing cards and watching his grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s sporting events. Surviving are two sons and two daughters-in-law, Greg and Donna Ortman, of Bourbonnais, and Steven and Carey Ortman, of St. Anne; one daughter, Robin Ahramovich, of Bourbonnais; 10 grandchildren, Vanessa Norfleet, Matthew Ortman, Amanda Clifford, David Ahramovich, Anna Kolokythas, Bubba “Adam” Ahramovich, Christina Nakanishi, Samuel Ortman, Daniel Ortman and Stephanie Grosso; 23 greatgrandchildren; and two sisters and one brother-in-law, Catherine (Ira) Lawless, of Kankakee, and Rita DesMarteau, of Kankakee. In addition to his wife, he was preceded him in death by his parents; one son, Richard Ortman; one grandson, Josh Ahramovich; one son-in-law, Stanley Ahramovich Jr.; and two brothers, Francis Ortman and Robert Ortman. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 15, at Clancy-Gernon-Hertz Funeral Home in Kankakee. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 16, at St. John PaulII Catholic Church, West Campus, 953 S. Ninth Ave., Kankakee (formerly St. Martin of Tours). Obit of Eleanor (Sterrenberg) Greuling
Eleanor S. Greuling of Carmel passed away Monday, July 9, 2018. She was born in Charlotte, Illinois in 1927, the youngest daughter of William and Auguste Sterrenberg. She was predeceased by her husband, John A. (Jack) Greuling, and is survived by her four children, Georgia Kuchen (Richard), Andy Greuling (Kim), Anne Peterson (Paul), and Jill Greuling. Jack and Eleanor have eleven grandchildren: Lea Incandela, Nissa Vrooman (David), Nick Holcomb, Elise King (Jon, deceased), John Kuchen (Kelly), Audrey Foley (Andy), John Greuling (Hilary), Megan Peterson, Sara Peterson, Eric Peterson and Tyler Newsome. They have twelve great-grandchildren: Cameron Holcomb, Maisy Holcomb, Makenzie Holcomb, Kyah Vrooman, Leo Vrooman, Ollie Incandela, Liam King, Cade Kuchen, Finley Mae Kuchen, John Foley, Piper Jill Foley and John A. Greuling. Eleanor loved best being with family and friends; she enjoyed volunteer work, travel, playing golf, playing cards, watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren compete in sports events, and watching Pacer games on TV. She worked in business during high school and college, and enjoyed working with Jack for many years in the business they founded together. Eleanor’s family would like to thank the caregivers at The Stratford, as well as those at St. Vincent’s Hospice. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 12, 2018, at 10am followed by a memorialservice at 11am at King of Glory Lutheran Church in Carmel where Eleanor has been a member since 1974. Germantown Hills – Kaitlyn Nicole Wilson, 19 years old, was blessed with her angel’s wings in Champaign, Illinois, on Friday, July 6, 2018. She was born on January 3, 1999, in Peoria, Illinois. Kaitlyn leaves behind her father, Greg and Traci (Hanrahan) Wilson and sisters, Taylor Wilson and Meaghan Hanrahan of Germantown Hills, IL. Mother Jody Woertz and siblings, Owen Tschantz and Rebekah Purcell. Also surviving are her paternal grandparents, Duane and Joan (Wilson) Gerjets of Metamora, IL and maternal grandparents, Bill and Mary Purcell of Hillsboro, IL. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, John (Jack) Wilson. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton. A funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 12, at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Deer Creek, IL.
