Obit of Mardelle M. (Ommen) Duda


CULLOM — Mardelle M. Duda, 93, of Dwight, formerly of Cullom and Kempton, died at 12:05 a.m. Sunday, July 24, 2016, at Heritage Health in Dwight.
Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cullom with the Rev. Mauricio Vieira officiating. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, at the church. Burial will follow the services at West Lawn Cemetery in Cullom.
Mrs. Duda was born March 24, 1923, in Charlotte, Ill., a daughter of Otto W. and Hattie (Fuss) Ommen. She married Edward Duda on March 6, 1943, in Hattysburg, Mich. He died Jan. 12, 1991.
Surviving are one son, Larry Duda of Manteno; one daughter, Diane (Gene) Hagberg of Morris; one son-in-law: Robert Siawrys; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Janeice  Siawrys; one great-grandchild, Trevor Hulbert; one sister, Verna (Dale) Zeller; and numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law. 
Mrs. Duda was educated at Cullom schools. She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cullom, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Women’s Evangelical Lutheran Church Association and the Royal Neighbors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cullom or Heritage Health in Dwight.

Obit of Dwain Parker

GIBSON CITY — Dwain Parker, 90, a former Gibson City and Paxton resident, died on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016, in McAllen, Texas.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 23, at the United Methodist Church in Gibson City. Visitation will be at 10:30 a.m. prior to the services.
Mr. Parker was the son of Ralph and May Parker, both deceased. He and Dorla were married in 1950.
He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Joan, Janice (Greg) Greaf and Joy (Vince) Slisz; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters and one great-grandson, Jordon.
Mr. Parker was proud to be a World War II veteran who served in the Navy as a medic attached to the Seabees. He was employed for many years by CIPS. He and his wife owned and operated Parkers Cleaners for 10 years.
Mr. Parker was a 66-year member of the Masonic Lodge and a longtime Shriner. He helped found the Corn Belt Shrine Clowns in Gibson City in 1981.
In Texas, he continued clowning and to work for children by driving vans from the Mexican border to Houston and Galveston Shriners Hospitals for Children to see their doctors for treatment.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, he requested memorials be sent to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 211 N. Oak Park Ave., Chicago, IL 60707-3392.

Obit of Margaret R. (Mehrings) Johnson


Margaret R. Johnson,90, of Chatsworth passed away at 4:50 pm, Sunday, July 17, 2016 at Fairview Haven Retirement Community, Fairbury.
Funeral services will be 11 am, Friday, July 22, 2016 at St. Paul Evangellical Lutheran Church, Chatsworth; with Pastor Mauricio Vieira officiating. Burial will follow in Chatsworth Township Cemetery, Chatsworth.
Visitation will be at 4 to 7 pm, Thursday, July 21 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury and one hour prior to her service on Friday at the church in Chatsworth.
The family suggests that memorials be directed to St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chatsworth or Fairview Haven Retirement Community, Fairbury.
Margaret was born August 25, 1925 in rural Fairbury, the daughter of Harry and Emma (Frohling) Mehrings. She married Wesley Johnson on December 19, 1943 in Crescent City. Her husband preceded her in death in 1999. Her parents and a son-in-law, Dale Miller also preceded her in death.
Survivors include her children, Virginia Miller and Harry (Til) Johnson, both of Forrest; two sisters, Elizabeth Englebrecht of Paxton and Mary Ellen Sanders of Fairbury; seven grandchildren, Michael (Marcie) MIller, Michelle (Gregg) Honegger, Matthew (Tammy) Miller, Marcus (Alicia) Miller, Trent (Jennifer) Johnson, Travis Johnson and TeAnna (Dan) Herr and 19 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Johnson was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary, both of Chatsworth. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Obit of Violet (Garrels) Kyburz


Cullom--Violet M. Kyburz, 95, of Normal, formerly of Cullom, passed away at 4:30 pm on Wednesday (July 13, 2016) at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal. Her funeral will be at 11 am on Saturday at the Cullom United Methodist Church, Cullom, with Pastor Jonathan Brashear officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 am until the time of service on Saturday at the church. Burial will follow in Chatsworth Cemetery.
Memorial in Violet's name may be made to the Cullom United Methodist Church or Cullom Fire and EMS. Calvert & Martin Funeral Home, Cullom, is handling the arrangements.
Violet was born June 20, 1921, on a farm near Sibley, a daughter of Henry and Agnes Lucy Stehle Garrels. She married Dan Kyburz on March 20, 1943, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kyburz in Chatsworth. He preceded her in death on July 16, 2003.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda (Gary) Roberts, Mount Zion, and Susan (John) Fox, Downs; seven grandchildren, Kip Harms, Cullom; Kregg Harms, Cabery, Chad (Ele) Roberts, Erie, Colo; Ginger (Mike) Murt, Paducah, Ky.; Denver (Angie) Fox, Heyworth, Levi Fox, Austin, Texas; and Logan Fox, Libertyville; and five great grandchildren, Savannah Murt, Corbin Fox, Drew Roberts, Lyla Fox and Ezra Fox.
Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Betty Kyburz, Indianapolis, Ind., and good friend, Virginia Lee, Chatsworth.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter and son-in-law, Dana and Roy Harms; and a brother, Edward Garrels.
Vi worked for a confectionery in Forrest after graduating from Forrest High School. Vi married Dan and moved to a farm northwest of Chatsworth. She and Dan farmed, raised dairy cattle and later both worked at the Conibear Drug Store in Chatsworth.
Vi taught Sunday school at the Chatsworth Methodist Church for 18 years and was a Girl Scout leader for 15 years. She was on the United Methodist Chuch and Centennial Committees. Violet was a member of the Women's Club and Home Extension for 75 years.
Dan and Vi moved to a farm east of Cullom in 1978 to raise their two grandsons, and later moved into town in June 1990. Vi eventually moved to Bloomington, first in an apartment, then the Blair House and finally Heartland Health Care Center.
Vi was proud to be a homemaker and a farmer,s wife. She served the church, schools and communities of Chatsworth and Cullom.
She loved her three daughters, loved to cook for her gandchildren and was happy to meet her great grandchildren. Vi enjoyed celebrating birthdays and holidays and brought joy and laughter to all events. She will be greatly missed.

Obit of Geneva (Garmon) Dancy- 2015

BISMARCK – Geneva Dancy, 81, of Bismarck passed away at her home on Thursday (April 9, 2015). Geneva was born on April 4, 1934, in Chatsworth to Hebron and Mary (Mosby) Garmon. Geneva married the love of her life Kenneth Dancy on May 29, 1953; he preceded her in death. Surviving Geneva are one brother, Ronald Garmon of Tilton; three sisters, Judy Willis of Danville, Sandra Wilson of Bismarck and Ruby Benway of Washington, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews. Geneva was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Michael Dancy; two brothers, Ray and Donald Garmon; and four sisters, Dorothy Perkins, Nina Flessner, Virginia O'Conner and Shelby Aquino. Geneva was a graduate of Rossville High School. She previously attended Walnut Corner Church of Christ and as of recently had been attending First Church of Christ in Bismarck. She enjoyed her flowers, reading, crocheting and quilting. Geneva also enjoyed spending her winters in Florida. A Celebration of Geneva's life will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Danville. Officiating will be Pastor Jim Boudouris of the First Church of Christ in Bismarck. Burial will follow in Gundy Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Obit of James L. "Hoot" Geiger

BEMENT – James L. "Hoot" Geiger, 81, of Bement passed away at 7:47 p.m. Thursday (June 9, 2016) at the Bement Healthcare Center. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, at the Hinds Funeral Home, 348 N. Piatt St., Bement. Following the visitation, military rites will be performed by the Albert Parker American Legion Post 620, Bement. Then we will take Hoot to the Chatsworth Cemetery, Chatsworth, for a 1 p.m. graveside service. Memorial contributions can be made to the Albert Parker American Legion Post 620. Hoot was born on Sept. 5, 1934, in Strawn, a son of William Chris and Hazel Kuntz Geiger. He is survived by two daughters, Lynn (Steve) Million of Livingston, Ill., and Kathryn Huffstettler of Huntsville, Texas. Also surviving are a brother, John Geiger of Fairbury, and a sister, Loraine Edwards in Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Gertrude Geiger. Hoot was a U.S. Army veteran and was retired from the railroad.
