Obit of James M. Huff

James M. Huff, 82, born February 5, 1933 in Chatsworth, IL., peacefully passed away, Saturday, July 25, 2015, surrounded by his family at his home in Bloomington. A Father of four, Dianne Huff, Jim (Cheri) Huff, Tim (Sandy) Huff, and Heidi Huff-Hargis. A Grandfather of Todd (Vicki) Huff, Tiffany (Mark) Bode, Travis (Kristen) Huff, Chad Huff, Jarrett Huff, Marissa Huff, and Tyler Hargis. A Great Grandfather to Shelby Huff, Taylor Bode and Brittany Bode. He is preceded by his oldest Daughter, Dianne Huff, who was his devoted caregiver until she passed in April 2014. Jim was a proud Veteran of the US Army, serving in the Korean War. He worked as a laborer for Rowe Construction until his retirement. He enjoyed farming and gardening, and spending time at the VFW. He was a devoted family man, who showed us love and guidance. His example of kindness will be remembered, as he was giving, and always helping someone in need. He was loved and adored by all, and we will miss his humor, his orneriness, and his smile. Special Thank You to Megan Williamson, whose dedication and care for Jim this past year was greatly appreciated. Visitation will be held at East Lawn Funeral Home, August 4, 2015 from 4:30-7:30, and Funeral Service, August 5, 2015, at 10:00 a.m., also at East Lawn Funeral Home, with burial to follow in East Lawn Memorial Gardens. Obit of William Merle Sullens

CHATSWORTH — William Merle Sullens, 81, of Chatsworth, died at 3:12 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, 2015, at his residence in Chatsworth. Per his request, cremation rites have been accorded without services. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury, is assisting with arrangements. Mr. Sullens was born July 28, 1934, in Hot Springs, Ark., the son of Ruby and Easter (Yates) Sullens. He married Sandra Gosteli on Jan. 21, 1981, in Fairbury. She survives. Other survivors include his children, Richard Sullens, Fairbury, Easter (Patrick Fairley) Stanbary, Hollywood, Fla., Carol (Timothy) Sanderson, Tulsa, Okla., Catherine Bessen (Matthew) Toohill, Fairbury, Lourdes Charlene (Darren) Roelfs, Hudson, Gregory (Monica) Sullens, Fairbury, Jennifer Drury, Addison, and Jeffrey Drury, Aurora; 21 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one grandson. Mr. Sullens served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Obit of Gretta L. (Cartier) Askew

Gretta L. Askew, 85, Of Fairbury, passed away peacefully from natural causes at 4:00 pm Saturday August 29, 2015 at her residence. Cremation rites will be accorded and private inurnment will take place at a later date in Chatsworth Cemetery. Calvert & Martin Funeral Home in Forrest is handling the arrangements. Gretta was born August 16, 1930 in Kankakee, Illinois, a daughter of Robert and Mary L. (Lynn) Cartier, She married Thomas S. Askew on February 2, 1974, he preceded her in death. She is survived by: four children, eleven grandchildren, and nineteen great grandchildren.

Obit of Dustin Luke Walter

Dustin Luke Walter, 16, Chatsworth, died at 4:57 pm Tuesday, August 4, 2015 as a result of an automobile accident at Route 116 and 3100 East Road, Sullivan Twp. Livingston County. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, August 8, 2015 at the Living Word Church, Roberts with Pastor Doug Lee officiating. Burial will be in Avoca Twp. Cemetery, Fairbury. Visitation will be 3:00-8:00 pm Friday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury and 9:30-10:15 am Saturday at the church. The family suggests memorials be given to the charity of their choice. Dustin was born November 11, 1998 in Gibson City, IL the son of Daniel L. and Patti J. Broadus Walter. They survive in Chatsworth. Other survivors include 1 brother, Travis (Kate) Walter, Cullom, 2 sisters, Dana Walter, Colfax, Heather Walter, Chatsworth, paternal grandparents, Richard & Colleen Walter, Fairbury, maternal grandmother, Sandy Sisco, Danville, Iowa, 4 nephews Dylan, Jack, Pierce & Lyric Borders, and his young 4 legged friend, Larry. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Jerry Broadus. Dustin was about to begin his sophomore year at Prairie Central high school. He enjoyed 4-wheeling with his friends and spending time with family. His parents were proud to say he was a hard working young man who held jobs at both Double S Farms and Forrest Farms.

CHATSWORTH — H. Berdell Galloway, 90, of Chatsworth, died at 11:49 a.m. Friday (Aug. 28, 2015) at Pontiac Healthcare and Rehab in Pontiac. His funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chatsworth, with Rev. Mauricio Vieira officiating. Burial will follow in Chatsworth Cemetery with full military rites. A visitation will be held at 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Memorials in his name may be left to St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church or American Legion Post 613 or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Calvert & Martin Funeral Home in Chatsworth is handling the services. Berdell was born in Cullom on Sept. 27, 1924 a son of John and Ella (Baker) Galloway. He married Annetta Saathoff on March 16, 1947 in Charlotte. She survives. Other survivors include his children, Dan Galloway of Arizona, Ron “Joe” (Jeanetta) Galloway of Chatsworth, Judy (Dick) Gragert of Pontiac, Cathy Durham of Fairbury, Gary (Jenise) Galloway of Chatsworth; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Hilda Ruebensam of Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Weldon, and his sister, Evelyn Haley. Berdell graduated from Cullom High School in 1942. He served our country in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Islands. He was a member of St Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church and Walter Clemens American Legion Post 613. Obit of Lucille (Perkins) Sterrenberg

CULLOM — Lucille Fern Perkins Sterrenberg, 92, of Lake Placid, Fla., formerly of Cullom, left us to be with her dear husband Paul on Tuesday (July 28, 2015) at her daughter's home in Lake Placid, Fla. Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Calvert & Martin Funeral Home, Cullom, with the Rev. Jane Bradford officiating. Burial will follow in Chatsworth Cemetery, Chatsworth. Visitation will be one hour prior to service Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials in her name may be made to the Chatsworth Fire Department. Calvert & Martin Funeral Home, Cullom, is handling the arrangements. Lucille was born Oct. 26, 1922, in Forrest, a daughter of Ora James and Anna Marie Weisser Perkins. She married Paul L. Sterrenberg on July 28, 1943, in Seattle, Wash., while he was serving in the U.S. Navy. They returned to Illinois and Paul to his farming. Lucille faithfully brought meals to the men in the field and continued well into her 80s. Paul preceded her in death on Jan. 16, 1998. Survivors include four children, Paula Sterrenberg, Joe (Shari) Sterrenberg, Louie (Joey) Sterrenberg and Kae (Charles) Heninger; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings. Lucille attended grade school and graduated from Chatsworth High School, where she had met Paul. The couple started wintering in Naples, Fla., in 1970-71, and did so each winter until Paul’s passing in 1998. They also enjoyed camping and traveled much of the United States. They also traveled to Germany, Switzerland, Holland and Austria. Both loved to dance and never missed the “big bands.” Lucille was an avid Cubs fan. She was a gracious hostess and she was the happiest when her home was filled with her family and friends. Lucille loved her church and attended both Chatsworth and Cullom Lutheran churches. Elery Perkins turns 100

H. Elery Perkins of Chatsworth is celebrating his 100th birthday with a gathering being planned by his family from 5 to 12 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5 at the Country Kettle in Gibson City. He was born on
Sept. 9, 1915, in rural Chatsworth and has lived in the area his entire life.
He has two children: Ronald Perkins, of Chatsworth; and Judith Green (deceased). He also is blessed with four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He married Margery Eleanor Hoff on March 29, 1941. She passed away on March 13, 2008.

Elery is a retired farmer, trucker and crossing guard. He enjoys camping and spending time with family.

Sorry everyone! August was a lost month for me. I'm back on the job now tho and will try to bring everything up to date. Today is Thursday, September 3, my first day at home since the surgery.
It's good to be alive and back with my family!!
