Obit of George A. Davis

VARNA — George A. Davis, 81, of Varna, passed away peacefully at 1:25 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 24, 2015) at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was born May 9, 1933, in Waukesha, Wis., the son of John and Florence M. Muehl Davis. He married Judith Conibear on Jan. 27, 1963, in Chatsworth. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Maureen (David) Miller, Normal, and Suzanne (Mike) Schall, Cullom. Also surviving are five grandchildren, as well as one brother, John (Carol Ann) Davis, Newport News, Va., and one sister Barbara (Larry) Covili, Williamsburg, Va. One daughter, Barbara Dockery, and two brothers preceded him in death. A Korean conflict Army veteran, he was honorably discharged in April 1955. He then worked as a truck driver for many years and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sparland. George was an amazing and loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all. Cremation rites will be accorded. A time to celebrate his life will be at 11 a.m. March 7 at First Baptist Church in Sparland. The Rev. Elaine Bolen will officiate. Visitation will be one half hour prior to his service. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be given First Baptist Church in Sparland. Obit of Margaret E. (Shell) Herink

CANTON - Margaret E. Herink, 91, of Canton passed away at 12:17 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015, at Heartland Healthcare Center in Canton. She was born in Piper City, Ill., on March 28, 1923, to Adam and Bessie (Eaker) Shell. She married Homer "Bill" R. Herink on Christmas Eve, 1948, in Chatsworth, Ill. He preceded her in death on March 9, 2010. Surviving are three children, Constance (Hal) Maples of St. Peters, Mo., Ronald (Judy) Herink of Borden, Ind., and Frederick (Karol) Herink of Canton; six grandchildren, Leia Knapp, Adam Herink, A.J. Herink, Tim Herink, Amy Herink and Joe Herink; one great-granddaughter, Keira Knapp; and one sister, Helen Babcock of Washington, Ill. Also preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers and four sisters. She received her bachelor's degree in teaching from ISU. She was a teacher at Central Grade School in Canton and taught for 12 years at Lacon and Varna. She was a member of the Canton First Presbyterian Church and a past member of the Eastern Star in Canton. She was also a member of the Graham Hospital Service League and served on the Spoon River Library District Board. She enjoyed sewing and gardening. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 27, 2015, at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home in Canton, where visitation will be held Thursday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. The Rev. Tim Bauler will officiate. Burial will follow in White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton. Memorials may be made to Canton First Presbyterian Church or Graham Hospital Service League. Obit of Glenn Heminover

SALEM — Glenn Heminover Sr., 88, of Salem, died at 11:35 a.m. Thursday (Feb. 19, 2015) at his home. He was born Oct. 15, 1926, in Seneca, to Oscar R. and Wave Williamson Heminover. He married Margaret E. Johnson on Sept. 24, 1949, in Freedom Township. Survivors include sons, Glenn Heminover Jr., Champaign, and Mervin (Paula) Heminover, Salem; daughters, Marjorie Bullard, Salem, formerly of Bloomington, who was his loving caregiver, and Gail (Brad) Pate, Salem; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret; and five siblings, Ora Bogren, Oscar Heminover, Clarissa Osmunson, Evelyn Slafer and Wilma Loomis. The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Salem Lutheran Church with the Rev. Doug Meyer officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery in Salem. Military rites will be accorded by the Salem American Legion. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday at the church. Glenn served during World War II in the U.S. Navy. He was the owner of Lakewood Motel in Salem and Peoples Cleaners in Chatsworth for several years. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church and Salem American Legion. Obit of Peggy J. (Bell) Higgins



Peggy J. Higgins, age 74, of Rinard, Illinois, passed away Monday, February 2, 2015, at her home in Rinard. Peggy was born March 26, 1940 in Hiram, MO to Bryan and Mary (Hedrick) Bell. She married Bob Kyburz in 1962. She later married Ben Higgins on June 14, 1982 in Rinard. He preceded her in death on March 8, 1998. Peggy worked as a waitress at several area restaurants, including the Ranch Steakhouse, and was of the Baptist faith. Peggy, lovingly referred to as "Mamaw", adored her granddaughters. She enjoyed talking to everyone and you could always count her in when playing cards with family and at family events. She is survived by her daughters: Sheryl (Dave) Brant of Cisne and Jana (Brad) Mugrage of Rinard; 2 granddaughters: Kacy Jo Mugrage of Flora and Lexi Jo Brant of Cisne; great-granddaughter: Shea Jones; 4 sisters: Ruth Cantrell of St. Louis, MO, and Shirley Durham, Sue (Larry) Kurtenbach, and Faye (John) Baker all of Chatsworth; 5 brothers: Jim Bell of Bloomington, Larry (Cindy) Bell of Forrest, Gary Bell of Chatsworth, Darrell (Tanya) Bell of Chatsworth, and Jerry (Linda) Bell of Advance, MO; along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 brothers: Gene and Ivan Bell, 2 sisters: Brenda Bell and Verna Humphrey, and a niece: Connie Emberton. A funeral service for Peggy Higgins will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, February 6, 2015 at Frank & Bright Funeral Home with visitation starting at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Obit of Wilma (Ferguson) Dehm



Wilma Dehm, 88, of Chatsworth, IL passed away at 12:57 am on Monday, February 02, 2015 at Advocate BroMenn Regional Medical Center in Normal, IL. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, February 6, 2015 at Chatsworth United Methodist Church with Rev. Roosevelt Smith officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow services at Chatsworth Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Calvert & Martin Funeral Home in Chatsworth is handling arrangements for the family. Wilma was born January 10, 1927 in Cropsey, IL, a daughter of Millard and Lillie (Van Walker) Ferguson. She married Lyle “Ike” Dehm on September 15, 1945 in Chatsworth, IL. He survives. Also surviving are her children: Angela (Tom) Melody of Chatsworth, IL and Jeffrey (Floral) Dehm of Chatsworth, IL; two sisters: Marjorie Loughran of Pontiac, IL and Pat Hornickel of Chatsworth, IL; three grandchildren: Brad Dehm, Ashley Talleur, and Nicole Moore; and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son: Eric Dehm; six brothers: Conley Ferguson, Millard Ferguson, Jr., Clarence Dudley Ferguson, Larry D. Ferguson, Rodney Joe Ferguson, and Gary Lee Ferguson; five sisters: Jean Lavely, Ann Robbins, GerriReyneirs, Mariruth Therien, and Emmajean Ferguson in infancy. Wilma attended Fairbury schools. Wilma and Ike owned and operated Westside Drive-in in Chatsworth, for five years prior to them having children. After that, Ike and Wilma owned and operated Dehm Bus Service where she served as the bookkeeper for over 50 years as well as a homemaker. Wilma was a member of Chatsworth United Methodist Church. She loved coming from a large family and she enjoyed having fun together. Wilma was a talented seamstress and enjoyed making clothes for her family. She was a kind and loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed.

Obit of Phyllis (Davis) Daniel



Phyllis Ann Daniel, 66, passed away Saturday, January 31, 2015, in Tulsa, OK with her loving family by her side. Phyllis bravely fought cancer for over a year and many would say they couldn’t tell she was sick due to her positive spirit, impeccable style, and abundant energy. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Wednesday, February, 4, 2015, at Strode Funeral Home, 610 S. Duncan, Stillwater, OK. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, Stillwater. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Phyllis was born Phyllis Davis, July, 7, 1948 in Chatsworth, IL to parents Raymond Davis and Florence Davis. She attended Chatsworth High School then the University of Illinois where she obtained her BA in Education. Phyllis moved to Tulsa in 1996 with her husband Gordon Daniel, her partner of over 20 years. Phyllis is survived by her husband, Gordon Daniel; mother, Florence Davis; son, Matthew Crane; daughter, Suzanne Williams; stepson, Kyle Daniel; stepdaughter, Tasha Garske; and eight grandchildren. Phyllis will be greatly missed by all who knew her and always remembered for her warmth and friendliness to everyone she meets. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Obit of Ray V. Schlemmer

Ray V. Schlemmer, 75 of Chatsworth, IL., died Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 7:00AM at Piper City Rehab and Living Center, Piper City, IL.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at 11:00AM at St. Paul’s Evangelical Church, Chatsworth with Rev. Corinne Blissard officiating. Burial will be in Chatsworth Cemetery where full military rites will be accorded by the Chatsworth American Legion. Memorials in Ray’s name may be made to St. Paul’s Church, Piper City Rehab & Living Center or Chatsworth American Legion. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5:00-7:00PM at Calvert & Martin Funeral Home, Chatsworth.
Ray was born on April 2, 1939 in Watseka,IL., a son of Victor and Augusta (Ulitzsch) Schlemmer. Survivors include: one sister: Joy (Kenny) Ashman of Chatsworth, IL.; one niece: Jolea (John) Kalvin of Hampshire, Il; one great niece: Joryn Kalvin and one great nephew: Jack Kalvin. And longtime friend: Ronnie McMillan of Gilman, IL.
Ray was educated in Chatsworth schools. He was a carpenter and farmer and had been employed at Livingston County Housing Authority in Chatsworth. He was a member of St. Paul’s Church-Chatsworth, and Chatsworth American Legion. He was an avid NASCAR fan and loved old western movies.
