Obit of Vernon N. Perkins-2013


Sauk Rapids, MN
Vernon N. Perkins, 98, a longtime resident of Worthington, MN, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2013, at the Good Shepherd community Home, Sauk Rapids, MN, after a short illness.
Vernon was born June 8, 1915 in Chatsworth, IL to Gilvert and Amelia (Berlet) Perkins. He married Gladys Ling on February 6, 1939 in Worthington. While farming north of Worthington, they raised four daughters before retiring and moving to town and building their home in 1978. They lived there happily until Gladys suffered through a long illness, passing away in 1990. 
After joining a single support group, he met and later married Michele (Mickie) Seimer. They were together for twenty years. Following her death in 2011, Vernon moved to the St. Cloud area to be near his daughters.
Vernon enjoyed fishing, pheasant hunting, watching baseball and football, playing cards, woodworking, music and especially traveling with family and friends. 
Vernon was an active longtime member of the United Methodist Church including Superintendent of Sunday School and active in Friendship Class.  
Vernon will be remembered for his quick wit and good humor and gentle, kind spirit. 
Vernon is survived by his four daughters, Janice Paulsen (Jim) of Nipoma, CA, Dorothy Lee (Jim) of St. Could, MN, Judy Ibis (Rod) of Eden Prairie, MN, and Sylvia Perkins of Lake Forest, CA; grandchildren, Patty Esteban, Jeff Paulsen, Melissa Lindsey, Jon Lee, Jen Vick, Dave Ibis, and Mike Ibis; seventeen great grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Gladys and second wife, Michele, one brother, Wallace, and two sisters, Alta Hansen and Mae Apel. 
A celebration of Vernon's life will be held on Friday, September 27, 2013, at 11 am at the First United Methodist Church of Worthington, MN, with Rev. Dr. Daren Flinchk officiating. Pall bearers will be Jeffrey Paulsen, Jon Lee, David Ibis, Patricia Esteban, Melissa Lindsey and Jennifer Vick. Burial will be in the Worthington Cemetery.

Obit of Dorothy Remmers Hatch -2013


Dorothy Remmers Hatch of Conifer, Colorado passed away at age 78 at home on October 19, 2013. 
She was born on December 19, 1934 in Chatsworth, Illinois to Hilko and Blanche (Cording) Remmers. Dorothy graduated
from Lanphier High School and attended Western Illinois University. She worked at Sterling Stainless Tubing as an
accountant for over 20 years. She was passionate about water conservation and protecting animal habitats in Colorado. 
She was a tireless advocate for causes that were close to her heart. In 1956 she married Fred Hatch in Alexis, Illinois. 
Dorothy is survived by her brother William (Mary) Remmers; her three children, Jon (Vickie) Hatch; Cynthia (Jeffrey)
Teel; David (Lisa) Hatch; her six grandchildren, Katie (Aaron) Frey; Amy (Bradley) Molitor; Emily Hatch; Michael
(Allison) Hatch; Sarah (Christoper) Anderson; Benjamin Hatch and four great grandchildren. 
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers Carl and David Remmers. 
Cremation rites were accorded and private funeral services will be held at a later date. 


Obit of William Burke Lawless-June 2014


William Burke Lawless, 94, Colorado Springs, passed away peacefully at home, while surrounded by his family in the afternoon of June 22, 2014.
William began his life's journey on October 13, 1919, in Wesley, Iowa. He moved shortly thereafter to a farm in Chatsworth, Illinois where he grew up with his family. Instead of staying on the farm he enlisted in the Army, and in 1937 joined the Strategic Air Command.
William served his country as a navigator on a bomber aircraft. His travels took him to England, Japan, Guam, Greenland, and many different places in the United States.
Williams journey eventually led him to Hutchison, Kansas, where he met Ethel Mae Renfroe in February of 1946. It was love at first sight and they were married in March. The two traveled until they arrived in Colorado Springs, where they settled and lived out the rest of their days together with the family they started. 
William is greeted in Heaven by his wife, Ethel M. Lawless, their daughter Pamela Yount, his brothers Jack and Bob Lawless, and his sister, Eileen Davies.
He is survived and fondly remembered by his brother Frank Lawless, sister Donna Fisher, daughter, Nancy Cantino and her husband Edward, son Bill Lawless, daughter Cathie Bowen and her husband Scott, daughter Margaret Lawless, granddaughter Jenni Helgoth, granddaughter Katie Rose Borden, grandson Patrick Lawless, and five great grandchildren.
A Rosary will be held in Williams honor at 10:00 am, on thursday, June 26, 2014 at Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 S. Hancock Ave., Colorado Springs, CO. Contributions in William's name may be made to the Holy Trinity Catholic Church and/or Pikes Peak Hospice.

Obit of Ezra Boruff, Jr.


Ezra Boruff, Jr. age 67, of Monticello, passed away at 8:42 A.M. July 3, 2014 at his home with his loving
family by his side. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 P.M. Saturday, July 5, 2014 at the First Baptist
Church of Monticello with Pastor Mitch Estep officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of
service at the First Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Monticello Township Cemetery. Ezra was born
June 28, 1947 in Fairbury, Illinois the son of Ezra and Jessie (Sharp) Boruff, Sr. He married Gitana Leister
on July 24, 1966 at the First Baptist Church in Fairbury, Illinois. She survives. Also surviving are his
daughter Laura Gail (Kevin James) Hiller of Monticello; son Lonnie Stephen (Leslie Ann) Boruff of Chicago.
9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; Sister Judy (Bill) Owens of Bloomington, IL; brothers Fran (Bettie)
Boruff of Colorado; and Larry (Mary) Boruff of Chatsworth. Ezra was preceded by his parents and 1 sister
Betty Boruff. He was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Monticello. Memorials made be
made to the First Baptist Church of Monticello.

Obit of Geneva L. (Sorey) Hurt


Geneva L. Hurt
(February 24, 1931 - June 30, 2014) 
Geneva L. Hurt, 83, of Piper City, IL, died at 8:25 P.M., Monday, June 30, 2014 at her home. Her funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at The United Methodist Church, Piper City with the Rev. Elizabeth Reis officiating. Burial will be in Brenton Cemetery, Piper City. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 A.M. Thursday, July 3, 2014 at the United Methodist Church, Piper City. Memorials may be made the United Methodist Church, Piper City or to the Iroquois Memorial Hospice. 
Geneva was born on February 24, 1931 in Kempton, IL., to Homer and Jesse Hopper Sorey. She spent her childhood in Illinois and Tennessee. She married Junior Lee Hurt on June 7, 1950 in Pontiac, IL. He died November 17 ,2013. Survivors include her children Gary (Rose) Hurt and Debbie (Mike) Brown all of Pontiac,IL., Randy Hurt of Piper City. Three Sisters Shirley Mynatt of Knoxville, TN., Helen Beckhoff of Fairbury, IL. and Carol (Richard) Dawson of Mansfield, IL. Six grandchildren, eleven great-grand-children and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter Vicki Brand, two brothers James and Charles and two sisters Joan and Belle. Geneva was a homemaker and also was a factory worker at American Screen and a waitress at Azz Izz. She enjoyed reading, gardening and cooking.

Obit of Candy K. Cleaton


Candy K. Cleaton, 60, of Cullom, passed away at 11:24 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at Order of St. Francis Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Chatsworth Cemetery. Calvert and Martin Funeral Home in Cullom is handling arrangements for the family.
Candy was born Oct. 10, 1953, in Butte, Mont., a daughter of William C. and Elsie E. Brinkman Cleaton. She is survived by several foster brothers and sisters in Montana; two aunts, Hazel Brinkman and Jessie Brinkman; three uncles, Pat Goff, Fred Goff and Dave Prewett; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Candy was raised in Montana. In 2007 she moved to Piper City and lived there for four years before moving to Cullom in 2011. She was a member of the Senior Citizens' Club.
